- We constantly seek direction from the Lord on how we can help our members keep the commandments of God, especially those two great commandments to love God and our neighbors.
He announces the retirement of "home teaching" and "visiting teaching" as we know them today. He creates the "ministering" plan for the church.
- We have made the decision to retire home teaching and visiting teaching as we have known them. Instead, we will implement a newer, holier approach to caring for and ministering to others. We will refer to these efforts simply as “ministering.”
He shares that effective ministering will provide protection from the troubles of this world.
- Effective ministering efforts are enabled by the innate gifts of the sisters and by the incomparable power of the priesthood. We all need such protection from the cunning wiles of the adversary.
He closes that saving that this change marks the opening marks a new chapter in the history of the Church.
- Gratefully and prayerfully we open this new chapter in the history of the Church.
Something jumps out at me as Presidents Nelson's comment that this change marks a new chapter in the history of the Church. What a great time to be led and guided by holy prophets. We are led by prophets who are truly trying to do what the Lord needs to be done. As we learn about "ministering" and we look to implement a higher accountability to our neighbors, we will be blessed, encouraged, and sustained in our efforts. I am excited to be part of this major change and eager to learn how I can be of more service in the Lord's plan.
